Clothing and Accessory Design

Tshirts

For this T-shirt I used my main logo on a background colour that matched the skulls eyes so that they looked cut out. I think this design is effective because it is a bold contrast between the white and charcoal and it would stand out from a distance and still be readable from far back because the font is quite bold and legible.

This is the same as above but with a gray background and I dont think it is effective as the one above because there is less contrast between the colours.

This uses the same colour scheme as the first one but with one of my variant logos. I dont think this works as well as using my main logo because the writing inside the eyes is very small and would be very hard to read from even a short distance.

For this tshirt I kept the same gray colour as used before and added in a pocket putting the skull image on top of it. I don't think this one works as well as ones before because the name of the brand isn't used and the logo would have to be very small so it wouldn't be immediately associated with the sugarskull company. It also takes up a really small part of the tshirt so the rest of the tshirt looks quite plain and boring.

For this tshirt I used a watercolour that I made myself and then scanned in as the background and I then took my skull logo image and simplified and removed some of the colours so that the watercolour showed through behind it. I quite like the look of the skull like this but I dont think placing the watercolour only on the front of the tshirt so just the edges show is that effective because it looks messy and later on in designing I changed it so they covered the whole tshirt.

This is the same as above but with a different watercolour background.

For this tshirt I created a mexican style symbol using the pen tool and then placed the watercolour background over the whole tshirt instead of just at the front and think this looks a lot more effective than what I was doing before because it all blends better and I also added the sugar skull name under the symbol since the symbol looks nothing like my logo so wouldnt be associated with the company without it. Overall I think this tshirt looks really effective because there is contrast between the black and the watercolour making the symbol and logo stand out from a distance and I think because the watercolour is very simple and faded they are still the main focus point.

For this tshirt again I used one of the watercolours as the background and because it had stripes of colours I decided to place a mexican print in line with the stripes to make it more interesting. To make this pattern I found a mexican pattern and edited it for my design by taking out all the colours to leave me with the lines and then fading it using layer modes. I also added the written logo because using the skull was too much but I still needed to link it to the brand, I also faded it slightly so it wasnt to much of a contrast against the very faded watercolour and print because I wanted it to merge with it and become part of the image.

For this design I used a mexican style symbol that I live traced and edited to make it thick black lines of illustrator and then I placed this over another watercolour background. I added the written logo too because as with above this symbol is not one of my main logos so wouldn't be related to my company without it. I think this one works well because the symbol and text work well together as an image although I faded the colour slightly the design is still bold enough to stand out.

Tanks

For this tank I used the main logo and charcoal colour like with the first tshirt and although as with the tshirt it is bold and there is a good contrast dont think this works well on a tank because it takes up too much of the space in the front but if I made it any smaller the text wouldnt be legible from a distance.

For this tank I used the skull logo and the coloured variant to create a patterned print. I dont think this works well as a small scale print because the skulls are too detailed and it looks too busy.

On this tank I used one of the watercolour prints and the mexican symbol I used on the tshirt and I used layer modes to darken the colours. Instead of making the logo a bright white I did it slightly darked because it was too bright and too much of a contrast against the dark colours and didnt blend well as a bright white. I think this tank is effective because the darkened colours blend well together but the main image is still bold enough to stand out from a distance.

Hoodie

I used one of my variant logos for the hoodie and tilted it sideways so that it ran down the side of the hoodie and I think this works because its still easily legible and there is a good contrast between the black and white so you can still read the logo even though its sideways and has a thin stroke.

Laptop Cases

I used the same print as I used on one of the tanks for this and I think it does work on the laptop because it could be made a lot bigger so that you can now see the detail.

For this laptop bag I created a new symbol using the pen tool on illustrator and I added a darkened water colour background using layer modes. I also added in a small sugar skull logo at the bottom just big enough to be legible but small so it doesnt take away from the design so that the bag can easily be linked with the brand. I think this bag works well because of the contrast between light and dark so that the logo and symbol stand out against the background.

Phone Cases

For my first phone case I tried one using the main logo but I dont think it was effective because to get it too fit in the logo had to be quite small making the writing hard to read.

I then did one using the simplified skull face and placed it over a watercolour background using layer modes and I think this one works a lot better because I could make the skull much bigger by putting the logo underneath it and I think the colours blend well together and the contrast is subtle so it all merges well.

Pencil Cases

I placed the shape over a watercolour background and copied and pasted it to create a repeat pattern. I used layer modes to get the effect on the colours and I used the written part of my logo at the bottom. I think this design is effective because the contrast of the colours helps the design stand out and the symbol I made works well as a repeat pattern because it's quite symetrical.

Wall art

For this design I used the variant logo with the writing inside the skulls eyes because I thought this would work well as a wall art because I could scale it up so that the writing inside the eyes would be legible but this design is still image based which is what wall art should be but because of the eyes I still got the name of my brand in the design.

For this design I used one of the mexican symbols that I made and I dont think this was as effective as the first one because it isnt really decorative enough to be used as wall art on its own and it doesnt link at all to my brand identity because it has no part of my main logo or my brand name on it so wouldnt be accossiated with my brand.

Backpack

Next I designed this backpack using one of the water colour backgrounds and the main skull image and I used layer modes to change the colours. I think this one is effective because of the contrast between the dark backpack colour and the lighter lines of the skull and I also like the effect the layer modes gave because they made the skull almost look reflective.

Cushions

For this cushion I used one of the water colour backgrounds and created a repeat pattern using one of the mexican symbols I made and I think this is effective because of the symmetry of the symbol making it work well as a repeat pattern and making it in black made it stand out against the background and give it a good contrast.

I used another water colour background for this cushion and instead of putting the logo over with block colour I decided to use blending modes to make it a dark purple to contrast with the light purple cushion and I think this made it blend better with the background and look more subtle than a black or white would.

Rug

I used a repeat pattern of one of my mexican symbols for the rug and I think this worked well because the symbol is very symmetrical so made an effective pattern and it stands out because there is a good contrast between the black and white.

Wall Canvas

Next I made this wall canvas using a water colour background that I edited to make the colours brighter and more vibrant and then I placed one of my mexican symbols over it and I made it blend in better by using layer modes to get it to a dark purple because the contrast was too much when I made it black.

Shopping Bag

I decided to make some simple fabric shopping bags for the bag design, and I dont think this first one is very effective because the gray logo stands out too much against the dark background and it clashes instead of blending.

This shopping bag was a lot more effective because I kept the colours a lot more subtle and made the logo a darker version of the colours on the bag so it blended in better together.

Ipad Case

I made this ipad case using a repeat pattern I made using one of the Mexican symbols I created. This works well as a repeat pattern because it is very symmetrical and the shapes slot nicely between each other. I made the background white so there is a good contrast between that and the pattern making the pattern stand out but I made it just off white so that I could make the strip at the bottom true white so that it stood out as a seperate part and I put my logo on it to link the design to my brand.
